Reality testing (or reality checking) is a common method used by people to determine whether or not they are dreaming. It involves performing an action with results that will be different if the tester is dreaming. By practicing these tests during waking life, one may eventually decide to perform such a test while dreaming, which may fail and let the dreamer realize that they are dreaming. (The more foolproof the reality test, the better, as assuming one is dreaming can be dangerous)
* The nose reality check: The dreamer pinches their nose shut and if they are able to breathe without using their nose, it is a dream.
* Sticking one's finger through the palm of one's hand.
* Looking at one's digital watch (remembering the time), looking away, and looking back. As with text, the time will probably have changed randomly and radically at the second glance or contain strange letters and characters. (Analog watches do not usually change in dreams, while digital watches and clocks have a great tendency to do so.) An analog watch or clock may feature strange characters or the numbers all out of order.
* Flipping a light switch. Light levels rarely change as a result of the switch flipping in dreams.
* Looking into a mirror; in dreams, reflections from a mirror often appear to be blurred, distorted, incorrect, or frightening.
* Looking at the ground beneath one's feet or at one's hands. If one does this within a dream the difference in appearance of the ground or one's hands from the normal waking state is often enough to alert the conscious to the dream state.
A more precise form of reality testing involves examining the properties of dream objects to judge their apparent reality. Some lucid dreamers report that dream objects when examined closely have all the sensory properties, stability, and detail of objects in the physical world. Such detailed observation relates to whether mental objects and environments could effectively act as substitutes for the physical environments with the dreamer unable to see significant differences between the two. This has implications for those who claim there is a spiritual or supernatural world that might be accessible through out of body experience or after death.
Dreams are usually in colours but the image soon fades into black and white and in 10 minutes or so, it completely disappears unless we happen to wake up and then make a real effort to remember. Dreams are not over in a flash and it runs its full course, partly because dreaming is a light form of sleep and the sleeper is vaguely aware of his surroundings. Unless the sensation perceived is disturbing, the sleeper just dreams on.
Dreaming is not a vital state of brain recovery as it is thought to be. Within seconds of awakening from dreaming the person is fully alert and responsive. But awoken from a non-dreaming deep sleep, persons may experience confusion at times.
The parts of our brain controlling our emotions seems to be shut down during dreaming, which may be why the dreamer usually experience emotional detachment from the events. That is why one can remain asleep despite alarming and sometimes even frightening experience while dreaming. But sometimes, as it is in a nightmare, the emotions are not containable and we wake up. Whereas nightmares are made up of very frightening dreams, they are different from night terrors, which appears in non-dreaming state. In night terrors the sufferer typically sits up and cries out in fear and panic and children especially need much calming down by even more distressed parents. Strangely, unlike the parents, the child will have little recollection of any of this the next morning.
Everyone dreams. Those who claims that they do not are actually good sleepers, sleeping uninterrupted and ultimately getting up from non-dreaming sleep in the morning. The common belief is that dreams are essential for normal mental health, by resolving inner conflicts discharging tensions. But it may not be absolutely true. In fact dreaming can make the matter far worse. People with depression tend to have sad and miserable dreams which may lead to more sad thoughts and next day. That is why it may be best that they do not dream at all. Most drugs prescribed for depression also knock out REM sleep (Dreaming Sleep). Dreaming has nothing to de with memory.
Ancient cultures believed that dreams were spiritual in origin, often foretelling the future. Aristotle believed that dreams originated from within the dreamer, arising from the heart. Modern dream research has focused on two general interpretations of dream content. In one view, dreams have no inherent meaning but are simply a process by which the brain integrates new information into memories. In the other view, dreams contain real meaning symbolized in a picture language that is distinct from conscious logical thought.
The recounting of dreams has been used widely as part of clinical treatment. If dreams express important wishes, fears, concerns, and worries of the dreamer, the study and analysis of dreams can help reveal previously unknown aspects of a person’s mental functioning.
Dreaming, form of mental activity, different from waking thought, that occurs during sleep. The nature of dream activity has been characterized by many clinical and laboratory studies. These studies show that dreams are more perceptual than conceptual: Things are seen and heard rather than thought. In terms of the senses, visual experience is present in almost all dreams; auditory experience in 40 to 50 percent; and touch, taste, smell, and pain in a relatively small percentage. A considerable amount of emotion is commonly present—usually a single, stark emotion such as fear, anger, or joy rather than the modulated emotions that occur in the waking state. Most dreams are in the form of interrupted stories, made up partly of memories, with frequent shifts of scene.
It is so important to get your baby into a regular, fuss-free, sleep routine to help you solve your baby's sleep problem.
You should seriously considering establishing some sort of bedtime routine for you baby if you haven't done so yet. Once you have established a sleep pattern, your baby will be happier, more content and probably sleep right through the night.
There are many things you can do to establish a bedtime routine for your baby. Below are just a few:
Most of us have some kind of winding down routine before we go to sleep and this should be no different for your baby. Perhaps the sleep routine could begin with a bath, followed by a slow dimming of the lights (so they realise it is getting near to sleep time), then a change of nappy or diaper, putting them in the crib or cot and finishing with a bedtime story or lullaby.
If you don't want to follow the routine mentioned above to the letter, then you don't have to. Remember that you can change the order the routine I mentioned or you could change the whole routine entirely. You might want to include a baby massage before putting your baby to bed or put on some soothing music. The important thing to remember though is that you have to create the bedtime routine and then follow it night after night to the letter until it becomes a habit for your child.
Whenever you begin this routine, your baby will know that sleep is expected to follow. Babies and infants are creatures of habit, they enjoy the predictability of a sleep ritual and so a regular routine like this can help settle your baby more quickly and also increase the chances of him or her sleeping through the night.
Providing a routine and the same sleep environment each time is crucial to providing the ideal scenario for restful baby sleep.
Another thing should be in consideration when we will purchase a baby toy for the baby. The thing is to select the right toys for right aged child. Sometimes it may not match with the baby. So we should check the age hint in the box in any toy shop.
In case of selecting learning toys we should use our common sense because it varies from child to child. Some children are well advanced and some are not familiar with common sense. In that case we should not be dilemma. We should apprehend the right things and select the awesome toys for the children.
In selecting toys whether it is baby toys or learning toys we should give priority of the children’s demand. We need to know what they actually need. They should have to have satisfaction while purchasing toys for them. Say baby choose the heavy and big toys and we purchase another toy, it will be boring for the child. So we should keep in mind that baby’s satisfaction is the main factor to purchase a toy. In another way, we should also keep in mind that it should be in reasonable price although it depends on the manufactures.
In addition, we need to know the quantity of toys what we are going to buy. Say we have two babies and we purchase one toy for them. It will also be embarrassing form them because some kinds of baby or learning toys will help the children to mould their social skill in a very large scale. Moreover children prefer to play besides another baby’s toy.
When we eat too much, we store the extra calories and that turns into fat resulting into weight gain. Obesity simple means an excess of fat on the body. Obesity is a choric disease that can lead to chronic complaints such as high blood pressure and diabetes.
These diseases can cause long-term problems and are responsible for many premature deaths in the world only second to tobacco.
Being overweight is reaching epidemic proportions in the world and particularly in the west. It seems that obesity has become such a problem in Australia that some states have been forced to buy super-size ambulances to cope with those patients who are so fat they cannot fit inside a regular size ambulance.
The Health Minister for the New South Wales government, Reba Meagher, says the state has ordered three mega-lift ambulances at a cost of $150,000 each to cater for obese patients.
Americans spends billions on dieting each year buying diet books, diet foods and diet pills. An equal amount of money is spent on diseases related to being overweight. Productivity in the workplace also suffers. More then half of adult Americans and one in five children are overweight.
Being overweight has many causes and your age, ex, race and genes all play a part in this.
Genes tends to run in families but because your mum is overweight does not mean you will also become so. Lifestyle contributes to this as well.
Some people overeat because they are distressed or stresses, they may be bored or fed up. Some people overeat for comfort – the boyfriend leaves and they run to the fridge.
Some of us put on weight, as they grow older; their metabolism slows down telling us that we need fewer calories for our daily.
Pregnancy is also a factor.
Always check with your doctor before embarking on a diet plan. You can get advice on how to lose weight and the correct exercise for you.
Your doctor can also give you the information to ensure your success so you will not go on the yo-yo phase that plagued so many of us dieters.
There are no magic pills or instant portions to help you lose the weight. It is fun, hard work and very rewarding when you reach the weight you set as a goal.
A great idea for a baby shower isn't always easy. You want to do right by your good friend or family member, but you have no idea where you should start. There's no need to worry, because included below are some amazing ideas with which to give yourself a starting point and inspire your inner party planner.
Color
Conventional wisdom says that you should use blue for baby boys and pink for baby girls. It can make it easy to organize a party around a certain color scheme. Of course, this assumes that the gender of the baby is known already. If the parents are trying to keep this is a surprise, you can plan your party around a neutral, but still cute, color such as yellow or light green. But don't feel that you have to be bound by convention. You could be more creative and use the mother's favorite color. As long as the colors are fun and lively, you're bound to have a great party.
Theme
Having a theme is a wonderful way to make party organization easy for you, still have everything be very fun, and give your party that "put together" look. One easy way to do this is simply to have a "baby" theme. Gather together decorations with storks, diapers, bottles, and rattles. Or maybe you don't want the traditional feeling that this would convey. Instead, you could choose a seasonal theme. For example, maybe Valentine's Day is close by. Use hearts and flowers for decorations and you'll have a Valentine's Baby Shower. You could do the same thing with Halloween, the Fourth of July, or Christmas if they're having a Christmas baby. And this theme doesn't have to just be holidays; instead use one of the four seasons (obviously whichever one the baby is going to be born in). A summer or beach theme would be a lot of fun and give you a starting point with which to organize the party.
Decorations
Don't get overwhelmed with all your choices for decorations. Remember your theme. For a party with a Valentine's Day theme, as mentioned above you could use hearts and flowers, but you could also add some things more specific to baby. For example, include balloons that have "I love you baby!" written on them, and to be really creative, get little baby food jars to tie the balloons to and hold them in place. Remember, the possibilities are endless. Symbols of motherhood are also a great way to decorate. One great way you could do this is with stuffed animals. For example, for the gift table centerpiece, have a stuffed lioness and her cub. In fact, putting stuffed animals in pairs of bigger and smaller can be an adorable way to portray mother and child. Get a big teddy bear and a small teddy bear and put them side by side. The teddy bear idea would be an especially good idea for the Valentine's Day theme, but remember, you can do this with any plush animal!
Favors
Party favors are not absolutely necessary for a baby shower, but they are certainly appreciated, and they can make a great prize if you play shower games. Also, they can do double duty as both decorations and favors. For example, a friend of mine had some very cute napkins as favors that had little babies and toys painted on them. They were pretty when they were laid out, and then everyone got very excited when they realized they could take them home! You could do this with those mother and child stuffed animals you were using for decorations also. You could give your guests the pair, or just the smaller one, which would certainly make things more affordable. Remember, whether you could a small teddy bear, some stuffed lions, plush cats, or something else, you'll have a fun decoration and a gift that is easy to find and affordable. And of course, if you are looking for a more traditional favor, you could get little photo frames or carriage shaped candles. The possibilities are practically endless!
In this article I will take you beyond the world of strict diets and rigorous exercise routines!
1. Avoid self-sabotaging thoughts: Self-sabotaging thoughts will do you more harm than fake diet pills. Just imagine, if you always think that you cannot do the things you need to do in order to lose weight, how can you ever achieve your weight loss goals? If you think that you cannot do sit-ups and push-ups, you are probably jumping to conclusions and being too self-analytical even before you have tried these workouts!
If you think that doing thirty push-ups is overwhelming for you, start small. Start with 10 push-ups, and thank yourself once you have done it successfully! Then try to add one or two extra push-ups every day to your routine until you reach your target of thirty. You see, when you start small, it becomes much easier to reach your goals!
Instead of thinking too much, just take action and DO it! The amount of time you spend on thinking and criticizing yourself, you may as well as spend it on some exercise. While the former will do you no good, the latter will help you burn fat and lose weight!

That is why it is essential that you enlist the support of your friends and family who understand you and support your performance goals. It is also essential that you choose a weight loss program which offers support to its members in the form of a support group or forum. Always remember to be sensitive and responsive. For newborn baby, a massage up to 10 minutes is sufficient, while older baby can enjoy a massage for up to 20 minutes.
Respond to your baby's needs and stop when your baby has had enough.
1. Slowly and gently massage her head.
2. Using both hands, stroke from the center outwards to the sides of baby’s body. Remember that the ribs curve, strokes should follow the spaces between baby’s ribs.
3. Massage in a clockwise direction around navel, in ever widening circles. Do not massage in this areas until after the umbilical cord has fully separated.
4. Stroke down baby’s back from neck to bottom - including bottom. Then with the fingertips of both hands, lightly massage the muscles on either side of baby’s spine, from neck to bottom again, using a descending circular movement.
5. Stroke your baby's arms working down from baby’s shoulders to baby’s fingertips. Wrap your hand around one of your baby's arms and give him a series of gentle squeezes working from the top of baby’s arm down to baby’s wrist. Then massage baby’s wrist using thumb and forefinger. Do the same to his other arm.
6. Massage your baby's thighs, knees, shins and calves. Gently squeeze her thigh working down to her ankle (as with her arms). Massage her ankles, then her feet, one at a time, supporting her ankle securely with one hand and using your thumb to massage from heel to toe along the sole of her foot. This is the firmest massage of the whole body.
